The beauty of the moka pot is how easily you can have espresso-style coffee without the need for a big, expensive, high-maintenance machine. This impressive three-chambered pot delivers an amazing cup of coffee by way of steam using a simple stovetop burner. The steam builds up in the lowest chamber of the pot and rises through the coffee grounds.
Here’s how to make a perfect moka pot of coffee!
- Grind your coffee. For a 6-cup moka pot grind roughly 20 grams of coffee that equals to 4 level tablespoons so it is slightly larger than the size of granulated sugar.
- Add water. Fill the bottom chamber of your moka pot with water to about the level of the valve. Place the filtered funnel into the bottom chamber of your moka pot.
- Add coffee. Fill the funnel with your ground coffee and level off the top making sure not to compact the coffee. Screw the moka pots top on securely.
- Apply heat. Place your moka pot on the stove over medium heat. As the water approaches boiling temperatures, the pressure pushes a stream of coffee through the center vessel and into the top chamber.
- Remove. Once you begin to hear a hissing and/or gurgling sound remove your moka pot from the burner and allow any remaining coffee to flow into the top chamber.
Moka pots really shine when you are looking for that strong, bold cup of coffee without the headache of brewing espresso at home. And did we mention how fast this method is?!
